Leap into Literacy

Leap into Literacy was established after Allison’s PhD research found that reading comprehension levels in Australia are declining each year. After teaching creative writing classes to adults, she wanted to put together a fun program to help both struggling and confident children with their reading comprehension AND creative writing skills. Leap into Literacy’s goal is to instil a lifelong love of reading and writing for all students, and to help extend those children who may need additional assistance in these areas. Classes are fun and are NOT based on individual students completing worksheets; this means that kids are more motivated to learn and retain the information for life. Creative techniques and technology are used in small groups with one-on-one assistance during classes. Our literacy program fosters kids’ independent learning for confidence and success. Parents have said they are so happy to see their children enjoy reading and writing for pleasure! Students who are already avid readers and writers have also benefited greatly as they are challenged in ways that they may not be in the traditional classroom.
