Ever thought about Coding for Kids?
There is a lot of hype about coding as a kids activity or workshop, but what’s it all about? On the most basic level, coding is learning how we communicate with computers and how we build various platforms, such as websites, apps and video games.
And essentially, learning how to code is like learning a language… the language of the computer! Coding belongs in the area of STEM, and we wrote a blog on STEM a few days ago. STEM is a significant growth area and here are plenty of opportunities in this field. So, coding is something that can lead to a career, with computer programmers being in very high demand.
And it’s not only about equipping our children for the jobs of the future. On a broader level, it’s about promoting computational thinking. Problem-solving with mathematic, logic and algorithms. This sort of thinking teaches one how to break down larger problems into a sequence of smaller, more manageable problems.
And as we progress even further into the world of technology, giving your child basic programming knowledge can really change they way that they interact with not only technology, but also the world around them.
Through coding, children not only learn how digital media and technology is created, but they actually learn how to create it themselves. So instead of just playing the video game, or using the app, they start to imagine what goes into actually building these platforms. There is room for a lot of creativity and self-expression here.
And whilst most of our generation don’t know the first thing about what makes our smartphones or laptops work, or how our social media platforms are created, software is becoming more and more critical in our lives. Not having any exposure to the language of computers may well be as challenging as being illiterate or innumerate!
Here at easypeazy we have some wonderful STEM opportunities for your children and we also offer a range of coding classes and workshops.
