Fun Activities These Holidays
Whilst it’s great to send your child to holiday workshops and camps, if you have the opportunity to, it can be really lovely to just stay at home. And so that you don’t hear the call of ‘I’m bored Mum!’, here are some fun things we think you can enjoy together:
Mini Master Chef Competition
Most kids love to cook so why not create your mini master chef competition. Make sure that you keep the foods appropriate to the ages of the children… think pizzas, muffins, banana bread…
Visit a Market
Most kids love to explore the outside world and taking to a market can be a great way of keeping them busy for a few hours… see if there is a local farmers market and you could even buy the produce for your Mini Master Chef competition here!
Have an In-House Movie Session
Rent a family movie, eat the pizza you have cooked and make some popcorn for afterwards… everyone loves a good movie night, and this is an inexpensive way to do it
Take a Train Ride
You don’t even necessarily have to be going somewhere, but taking a train ride with your children can be really good fun, especially if it’s not something that they get to do very often
Have a Picnic
If the weather permits, it’s lovely to be out in the winter sun with a blanket and a picnic basket… just make sure you are all rugged up! And you can double this up with a bit of geocaching… a true boredom buster!
Spend some time taking photos and then create a little album of these photos – experiment with close ups and landscapes and see what you end up with
Spend some time in the garden if the weather permits and chat to your children about the different plants and flowers; most children have a keen interest in what’s around in the garden
An old time favourite… collect some different shaped stones and pebbles and paint them with acrylic paint… you can create a whole story scene with them
The sky is your limit… there are heaps of things that you can do these holidays that don’t have to cost much. Honestly, if you are having some dedicated time with your children and doing something together, that’s all they will really want… so get creative and have fun!
