Yoga for Stress
Have you ever wondered why yoga is so beneficial for kids?
We live in such a fast-paced world and with technology advancing so quickly, it only seems to getting faster and faster. And… faster and faster usually comes with a sprinkling of stress. And… faster at any cost seems to the mantra of the stressed out society that we live in as a whole!
This has an impact on our children and the last thing we want is for them to become stressed and over-functioning. As with adults, yoga can be a wonderful way to calm the system and find some inner balance. If you feel like you already have some brilliant fast-paced kids activities and camps booked, why not add something more soothing.
As we have discovered from this series of blogs, children are learning so much more than just the skills offered by actual activity they are participating in.
Through the practise of yoga, children can begin to learn various techniques for self-help, relaxation and inner-fulfilment. Yoga can help your little one to manage stress through breathing, awareness, meditation and healthy movement.
Breathing exercises can energise or relax, depending on what is needed at the time. Children can begin to feel a difference in their bodies as they start to recognise and manage their breathing. And over time their lung capacity can actually increase; this of course can be great for swimming, playing an instrument as well as sporting activities. As we breathe deeply and steadily our bodies release hormones that help to reduce stress levels in the body.
Yoga is a meditative practice by nature, so as a child balances in a posture, or sits in quite stillness for meditation, or moves gently through poses, their systems are being calmed and soothed.
Another really unique benefit to yoga is that it develops physical activity but without the competitive edge, which some children do not enjoy.
There really is something for everyone!
